County Wildlife Sites Group

Bluebell woodlandsThe County Wildlife Sites Group brought together partners from the Wildlife Trust, Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group, Natural England, Environment Agency, local authorities and the Environmental Records Centre to help set up a Local Wildlife Sites system in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

County Wildlife Sites (CWSs) are areas of land important for their wildlife. They include valuable semi-natural habitats such as ancient woodland, species-rich grasslands, wetlands, roadside verges, hedgerows and orchards. The habitats and species that live there flourish because of past management and many sites provide a refuge for rare or threatened plants and animals. The Wildlife Trust conservation team in Cambourne advises landowners and manages the wildlife sites system.
